Joseph Besset Place :
Museum from wheelwright to coach

VANOSC, a small Ardèche village clinging to the first foothills of the Massif Central, welcomes you to its Museum.

Welcome to Coach Museum in Vanosc

This Museum has for purpose to retrace the history and life of Joseph Besset. A local boy, son of farmers and an apprentice wheelwright in Vanosc. As the horse-drawn vehicle era was about to lose its crown to the automobile one, he became a coachbuilder. Then a major coach manufacturer with the famous « Isobloc », a revolution in the world of public transport.
Born in 1890, Joseph Besset is an inquisitive child, an enterprising young man and a visionary man.
Throughout his career, he is eager for new things to try out, not afraid to travel in France and beyond. Using advertising wisely, and surprise people with his senses of anticipation.
Today, the IVECOBUS enterprise is still established on the historical site picked by Joseph Besset in 1925 at Annonay, keeps this know-how and therefore his legacy.
A fabulous story to discover through a guided tour !
